Caring for someone with dementia

Caring for someone with dementia can be difficult. Sometimes we have to find new ways to communicate in order to continue the relationship. Sometimes we need to discover a new relationship with the same person who lives with dementia, and sometimes we need to find "meaning in" it all. Be gentle to yourself and remember that self care is important to both of you.

Sometimes we can find it difficult to "know what to say" or the "right way to say it". Research and personal experience suggests that there is no "right or wrong way". If we communicate with the intention to be caring and empathize with the person, it is highly unlikely we will do permanent damage to the relationship.
